Explora Atacama is an adventure-friendly property seemingly hidden in the ‘Ayllu de Larache’, about a 10-minute walk away from San Pedro de Atacama. The 17-hectare grounds allow you to take full advantage of the silence, privacy, and spaciousness of the surrounding landscape.
Your all-inclusive stay with Explora Atacama will open up a wide selection of exciting adventures with more than 40 guided excursions to the most remote places of the impressive Atacama Desert on offer each day. Explora Atacama has its own stable with horses for use during explorations, a kitchen open to guests, warm common spaces and an observatory where you can marvel at the pristine skies of San Pedro (which we must just add are some of the best skies in the world). You will also have access to 4 swimming pools, 2 outdoor Jacuzzi, 2 saunas, 2 steam rooms and a massage room housed in an original Aymara styled house.
The kitchen’s delectable food is sure to be a highlight for any guest, with a great breakfast buffet selection, an al-la-carte lunch that can be enjoyed together with some great Chilean wine either indoors or out, and when the night sets in and you’re almost ready to retire to your room for the night, soups, salads, lamb and fish dishes await your palate.
Although the Explora Atacama is not the most luxurious option in the desert, it is the best option for active travelers because of the choice of excursions that range from easy all the way through to advanced either by bike, on foot, or by horse. Explorations, even to the iconic sites, are designed in such a way so as to avoid the crowds and also include special ‘treats’ such as extraordinary picnics that take place amidst the most pristine parts of the landscape.
- The surroundings and available facilities are what makes this the ideal property to disconnect. WiFi is only available in the common areas. If you do need to be reachable, we suggest that you look into other options in San Pedro.
- Try and book your stay over a time when the new moon is out. The stunning stargazing offered at the observatory is possible (weather permitting) on days without a full moon.
- The ‘Tulur’ and ‘Yali’ rooms are similar in size (33m²). Having said that, some of the Yali rooms feature an incredible view of Licancabur Volcano which is an amazing ‘bonus’ feature. If booked well in advance, we can try our best to secure those for you.
- There were only 4 Catur Suites (50m²) at the time we inspected the hotel and they was set up for 2 adults and one child, space was ample enough to fit the family comfortably.
