Festivals & Events Calendar

Destinations come to life during their festivals, they showcase the culture and traditions that each country has to offer and allows you to jump in, take part and experience the magic of South America. Take a look at our full calendar of festivals and events below.

Fiesta de la Virgen de la Inmaculada Concepción
December 8th
During the ‘Fiesta de la Virgen de la Inmaculada concepción’, the Catholic church pays tribute to the Virgin Mother Mary. The festivities begin with a morning mass at the Temple de San Francisco in Arequipa, followed by a procession through the city, where men wearing female costumes approach the women and invite them to take part in a unique and traditional dance.
New Year’s Eve
December 31st
Cusco’s well-known theater group ‘Kusikay’ will be holding a free concert accompanied by a firework display at the Plaza de Armas. After the countdown at midnight, everybody will get involved in the fireworks, drinking, singing and celebrating the New Year. There are also some fun Peruvian traditions to take part in or spectate, such as the ‘El Correr’, where people run around the Plaza with an empty suitcase, an act which is said to bring a year full of traveling to the participant. Another tradition is to eat 12 grapes at midnight, this will ensure good luck for the coming 12 months of the year. For those with a sharp eye, you will notice that the locals can be seen to be dressed in a variety of colors, each representing what they need and want to attract the most in the coming year, with ‘yellow’ standing for luck, ‘red’ for love and ‘green’ for money.
