A helping hand for the Sol y Luna Foundation
Sol y Luna is a soul-stirring establishment that was created out of a love for Peru, its culture, its people and children. It is situated in the heart of the Sacred Valley and provides a safe haven for children across the community and allows them to learn and grow while giving them a beautiful life.
Owner and creator of the charming Sol y Luna Hotel, Marie Hélene Miribel, simply known as Petit, left her successful corporate life in France behind in search for something more rewarding which she found in the Sacred Valley of the Incas.
In 1999, Petit and her Swiss husband Franz started an education project for the local children. Many of them walked for hours each day to get to a school that operated under poor conditions or they just did not go to school at all. In order to support their education initiatives in the most economically sustainable way given Sacred Valley’s potential for tourism, in the year 2000, they decided to build a hotel, which we recommend as our favorite option in the upscale segment, the Sol y Luna Hotel.
The Intercultural School Sol y Luna
Petit and her husband then went on to start their very own school in 2009 as they opened the Sol y Luna Intercultural School, through which their 2 children Thomas and Melanie attend, along with 185 other children from the Sacred Valley.
PAQARI Children with Different Abilities
They later went on to open a branch off of the existing school , PAQARI, and added support for children with special needs, which is where Said Santos comes in.
Said was diagnosed with Edward’s syndrome, a rare disease that affects the normal development of his organs and body, and due to his medical condition, he requires a lot of therapies, psychological support and special education, for which we, SETOURS, cover ALL of the costs.
Children’s Home Sol y Luna
The latest project of Petit is ‘Hogar Sol y Luna’. Another challenge that she decided to take over when she experienced that the wonderful Italian therapist, Ada Stevanja was about to close it before returning to Europe for retirement. The Children’s Home is a place of safety for children who come from abusive homes, who are forced to live in extreme poverty or have been abandoned.
Helping Hand During the Corona Crisis
The hotel itself is the main contributor to all of the social projects.
Due to the current worldwide crisis and without the steady income from guests or sponsors from the tourism industry, they have only one route in which to secure funds, and that is through a Gofundme campaign. Every donation helps.
Despite the current worldwide financial situation, we will continue to support and sponsor Said as he and the foundation need us now more than ever.
Our hearts go out to those most affected by this terrible virus, and we will do whatever we can, within our power, to help.
