More than 100,000 tourists come to Peru for the Rally Dakar 2013

The president of the National Chamber of Tourism estimated 100,000 tourists for the start of the Dakar 2013 in Lima. He added, that this event will be broadcasted to more than 1.200 million people on over 300 channels worldwide. Canales estimated that the Dakar 2013 will generate revenues of more than USD 600 million.

Regular day tours to the ancient city of Caral

Regular day tours to the ancient city of Caral, a World Heritage site by UNESCO, have been offered since March. Caral, located 3.5–hour drive from Lima, dates back to around 2600 B.C. and is considered the oldest civilization of America, as old as the pyramids of Egypt. The tour includes transport by bus from/to Lima, the entrance fee and a 2-hour guided tour, a morning snack and lunch in the city of Barranca. Departures are scheduled on WED, FRI and SUN.

Marriott Hotel in Cusco to be opened in June 2012

The new Marriott Hotel in Cusco will open its doors in June 2012. Located in the heart of Cusco’s historical district, the 153-room hotel will feature colonial design and includes a museum of prominent Inca artifacts found when the property was being built. LC Peru offers flights to new destinations from April 2012

The revamped airline LC Peru announced that it will extend its route network in the following months:

May: Lima - Pisco - Cusco
June: Lima - Chachapoyas

Currently the airline operates with four Dash 8-202 twin-engine turboprop aircrafts to Cajamarca, Huaraz, Huanuco, Jauja, Ayacucho and Andahuaylas. Two additional aircrafts will be added to the fleet in May.


The Amazon declared one of the 7 Worldwide Natural Wonders

In May 2012 the mighty Amazon River / Rainforest will be certified as one of the 7 natural wonders of the world. The Amazon represents over half of the planet's remaining rainforest and comprises the largest and most species-rich tract of tropical rainforest worldwide. The accreditation ceremony will be held in Loreto, in the northern jungle of Peru.

Art & Cook in the historic hotel Monasterio

Be ready for a new experience combining history of the Spanish colonial arts and fine cooking at the 5* hotel Monasterio. The property, a former 16th-century Jesuit boasts beautiful paintings of the ‘Cusco School’. You will marvel the hotel’s art collection guided by an expert in religious art. Afterwards you can try yourself in the art of cooking. Following a brief introduction of the development of Peruvian Cuisine, different dishes will be created with products used by the colonial settlers. At the end visitors receive the recipe that was prepared and apron of the Hotel Monasterio.
For hotel guests the visit is offered MON and WED (approx. 04:00 to 06:00 pm) without a minimum.
For travellers staying in other hotels a minimum of 2 participants is required. The tour can be offered daily at any time but a reservation 24 hours in advance is necessary.

Visit to the Santo Domingo monastery in Lima at night

Every last Friday of the month the Santo Domingo convent in the old city of Lima hosts a special event for its visitors. Between 7.00 and 9.00 pm in the evening, a special tour thorugh the beautifully illuminated monastery is also accompanied by Baroque music and Gregorian chants. From the bell tower, visitors can enjoy a magnificent view of Lima at night. There is no limit on the number of visitors. If required, this event can arranged for any other day for a minimum of 20 visitors. The entry fees is the same as that for the regular tours.
