Machu Picchu and Lima are among the ten best places to visit in South America this year, according to a ranking published by the prestigious travel portal TripAdvisor. The Inca citadel Machu Picchu became second behind Buenos Aires and is the most visited place in Peru. Peru’s capital city, was ranked number nine. The city boasts archaeological pre-Inca sites, buildings from the colonial and Republican era but also a larger offer of hotels, shops and great restaurants. The Railway Company PeruRail, licensee of the railway in the south and southeastern Peru, announced the reopening of the train track Poroy - Ollantaytambo from April 16th. As we informed, heavy rains in the first months of the year led to landslides on the tracks. The railway between Poroy and Ollantaytambo was suspended due to cleanup efforts.

Casa Andina officially opened its fourth hotel in Lima and the first of its new brand 'Select'- Casa Andina Select, conceived for businessmen and travelers alike. The new hotel, located in the heart of Miraflores, has 155 rooms. It features among others three conference rooms, gym, spa and a restaurant. The hotel also offers a new concept called ‘Sama 2 Go’, a space where guests can purchase meals, drinks and other essential products on the go. The hotel chain already owns 20 properties in 11 destinations of the country. The second Casa Andina Select will be opened in Chiclayo, when the major restoration of Gran Hotel Chiclayo is completed.

The lodge Las Casitas del Colca won 3 ‘Traveller´s Choice’ awards. Its 20 luxurious cottages are set in the Colca Canyon on a 24-hectare estate with privileged views over the valley. The property was not just ranked number 9 in the category of ‘Best relaxing hotels and spas’ but also achieved place 22 among the ‘Top luxury hotels’ and was also placed among the ‘Top 25 best hotels in South America’, on rank 14. Las Casitas de Colca has been sold to an Arequipenian group. We will keep you posted about the eventual changes in the product.

The president of the National Chamber of Tourism estimated 100,000 tourists for the start of the Dakar 2013 in Lima. He added, that this event will be broadcasted to more than 1.200 million people on over 300 channels worldwide. Canales estimated that the Dakar 2013 will generate revenues of more than USD 600 million.

The tour includes transport by bus from/to Lima, the entrance fee and a 2-hour guided tour, a morning snack and lunch in the city of Barranca. Departures are scheduled on WED, FRI and SUN.
